Food styling begins with decorating the dish and making it suitable, but it doesn’t end there! You might have to take some special care while shooting, especially to maintain the naturality and vitality of the food while also making it look picture-perfect. Wherever you are shooting, in a restaurant or your studio or anywhere else, the dish need to be photographed efficiently before it begins to get spoilt. So here are some more food styling tips for beginners:
- Try to capture any action that comes with the food; like steam rising up from the food immediately after it is made, or the slow melting of ice cream in a hot environment.
- Prefer natural sunlight over artificial light, but only in a controlled way.
- Make sure the food occupies most of the frame, rather than focusing away from it.
- You might focus on the good looking part of the food, and then blur out the rest just a little so that the best part is elevated.
- Try to take a shot of a dish after taking a bite, to make it look more appetizing.
- Utilize White Balance to make sure that you get your food with the right tint and shade.
- Also, use a tripod to avoid blurry and disturbed shots.
