Not every one of us is lucky enough to look like a supermodel, and we have to live on with our god-gifted looks for our entire life. No, we are not expecting you to develop an inferiority complex and slip into depressions, but it is an important necessity to have a neat profile picture for professional sites like LinkedIn, because it has been observed that recruiters tend to base their first impression on the display picture of such sites. Also, resumes and CVs need a picture attached, certainly visible to the person going through it.
So you would have to make sure to follow these points when you put up your display picture anywhere:
- Get your official pictures done by a portrait photographer, one who knows how to do his job well.
- Also get them edited and retouched if you have to. After all its official, and it has to look good.
- Don’t wear flashy jewelry or dresses with inappropriate necklines. Its fine in personal album pics, but it creates a bad opinion about you if you use it in the wrong place.
- Let your face and shoulders cover most of the picture. It’s your face they wanna see…not the pretty vase beside you.
- You should be the most important thing in the photo, so avoid distracting backdrops (if a professional is doing your work he will know all of this and you can relax)
- Smile naturally, and let the photo look exactly like what you are when at ease.
