Food photography is an interesting (and yummy) job, provided you do it the right way! Basically focusing on food, this type of photography tends to be used in cook-books or food blogs. In any situation, the food displayed in the picture should make the viewer’s mouth water. Observe the texture of the food, and check with a trial-and-error method whether a particular lighting effect suits the look of the food or ruins it. Bring out the colors of the food, to make it look rich and vibrant. Pop in a bit into your mouth, to get a taste of the flavor which is to be elevated. It is this essence of the food that creates its value; that brings it to life and gives it a character.
If you are a chef, or a person who loves food in general, you will understand how each ingredient slowly builds a wall with its own charm and vigor, and the final result is a finished house, no less than a palace! So taking pictures of the process of cooking would also give a real feel to the dish. Also, it is food, and it won’t wait for long before getting spoilt or damaged. As a food photographer, your most important lesson would be to be ever-ready; you never know when your dish will give you the chance to get an amazing photo. Relish every part of the shooting just as you relish every morsel of the dish. Sometimes it is the best motivation for a good picture. Finally, the photo should be edited to perfection by adjusting or cutting out any unwanted objects in the scene.
